José Damasceno's Unorthodoxy

Known for his large-scale sculptures and installations using a variety of unorthodox materials and procedures, José Damasceno deconstructs, transforms, multiplies and accumulates common objects such as pencils, cigarettes, strings, hammers, chess pieces, doormats, sticks of chalk, modeling clay, just to name a few. Creating hybrid pieces he transforms the familiar into something new with synthesis, transformation, transportation and generosity, thus, exploring the friction of senses between idea, matter and form. Displacement and strangeness are also requested in the construction of the space, empowered by the presence of improbable objects and occurrences.
