Drawing is the starting point of Edith Derdyk's art work. Her installations seems to develop from a 'sense' which is translated into 'thought'. It is as if the line is looking for its own substance within the world. It designs, sews, dismantles planes and spaces, and changes our perception of them. Sometimes, the line is an ephemeral gesture which records sensitive and primal calligraphy; some others, it is an obsessive movement, almost mechanical, striving to build, transform and materialize.

Rhythm, intensity, sensitivity, strength are some of the qualities attached to the work that Edith Derdyk has been developing since the '80s. Her drawings, prints, videos, objects and installations articulate notions of experiences and processes which are associated with methodical research on polarities such as black and white, two-dimension and three dimension, transparency and opacity.
